WHO IS KYL MEANS?

I was raised in Washington, Illinois to a musician father and a mom who owned a cleaning business.  I grew up knowing and hearing about The Lord, but never really committed my life to following him. When I was 16, I went to a conference here in Kansas City.  The impact it had on me through worship made me decide to give my life truly to Christ.  It was a moment I will never forget.  I remember feeling the presence of God so strong in a room of about 15,000 people singing to Jesus.  Right then and there I made the decision to follow the Lord and received the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

I’m married to my best friend, Courtney Means.  Together, we have 2 young children.

Today, I have a dual occupation that includes worship leading and being a music producer.

HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR PRESENT ROLE AT LIFEPOINTE?

The impact that LifePointe has had on my family has been extraordinary.   I never really knew community like I do now.  That impression, along with my background training as a worship leader, has prepared me for the role I have at LifePointe.  I have been doing music in some capacity since I was six years old.  Over the past 9 years,  I have been leading worship at the International House of Prayer. Being around some of the most competent worship leaders has stretched, prepared and taught me things that have formed the way I lead today.  Ushering people into the presence of Jesus through worship is my passion.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

If you can’t love yourself, you can’t love your neighbor.

WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO SCRIPTURE VERSE THAT CONTINUES TO SPEAK POWER TO YOUR LIFE?

I would have to go with an entire chapter on this one.  It’s Philippians chapter 2.  I love reading about the humility of Jesus and the sacrifice he made for us.

WHAT IS A FAVORITE SPIRITUAL OR SELF-HELP BOOK YOU HAVE READ AND WHY?

Humility by Andrew Murry is my favorite.  Letting go of one’s self, and laying aside everything, is very hard to do. This is one of those books that took me through a process on how to really show and grow in humility.

DESCRIBE A PERFECT DAY

On a canoe trip with my wife floating down the James River on a hot summer day.  Then making a camping spot in some random location and camping out for the night.  With lots of fishing involved!

TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED BY, FUN FACT, OR NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW?

I won an online singing competition hosted by my all-time favorite vocal producer and 5-time Grammy winner, Kuk Harrell (Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce, Celine Dion, Justin Beiber, etc).  I was crowned on the Marie Osmond TV show.  Only Jesus could make such things happen.
